Texas Oil Industry Sees Minor Turnaround with Increased Activity
The Texas oil and gas industry has shown signs of improvement in recent months after employment figures declined last year. Karr Ingham, a representative of the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, credits an increase in the price of crude oil for spurring new activity in the Permian Basin.
Ingham notes that while employment numbers have improved slightly, they still remain below previous levels, indicating a prolonged period of job losses. However, this minor turnaround is accompanied by an uptick in oil and gas wells being drilled in Texas and New Mexico, leading to increased production and more oil on the market.
The increase in activity is connected to the higher prices for crude oil, which are designed to stimulate additional production and bring it to the marketplace. This should ultimately benefit consumers by lowering gasoline prices in the long term, according to Ingham.
