Texas Panhandle Gas Prices Surge by 13 Cents Amid Ongoing Conflicts
Gas prices in the Texas Panhandle have jumped significantly over the past week, with Amarillo-area drivers seeing an average price of $3.57 per gallon, a 13.4-cent increase from the previous week.
According to GasBuddy data cited by KAMR/KCIT, the local average gas price was up 1.6 cents in its monthly comparison and 94.3 cents in its annual comparison.
The prices varied widely across Amarillo, with a low of $3.35 per gallon and a high of $4.09, creating a 74-cent gap. Across Texas as a whole, the range was even wider, from $2.95 to $5.34.
GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan stated that average gasoline prices climbed back above $4 per gallon over the last week, with prices rising in slightly more states than they fell, due to rebounding oil prices driven by the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries.
De Haan cautioned that relief may not come quickly, as the seasonal transition to cheaper winter-blend gasoline in the coming month could bring some relief, but the two dominant challenges facing motorists show no signs of resolving anytime soon.
