The US and Saudis Unleash Joint Military Strikes Against Iran-Backed Militias
The US and Saudi Arabia launched a joint military operation against Iran-backed militias in Iraq, killing at least 20 fighters and six Iranian advisers. The strikes were carried out in response to alleged drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities by the militias.
The operation was coordinated with the Iraqi government, according to US President Donald Trump, who vowed to hit Iran 'very hard' after it targeted a base in Jordan that hosts US troops.
Air strikes were also carried out against targets belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, including military command centers and missile facilities. The US Central Command said over 50 targets were struck in the operation.
The renewed hostilities sent oil prices spiking, with Brent crude jumping 7.3% to $88.093 a barrel. The conflict has jolted the world economy and is unpopular among Americans.
