Theo Launches Silver Lease-Backed Token With Revenue-Sharing Structure
Theo, an on-chain financial platform, has launched thSLVR, a tokenized product that tracks silver prices and distributes underlying asset lending income to investors. This new product allows investors to earn lease fees generated from lending silver to institutional borrowers. The company announced the launch with over $40 million in active lease agreements already secured.
Silver prices have been volatile this year, plummeting 41% within three days after hitting a record high of $121.79 per ounce in January. However, London's one-month silver lease rate briefly spiked to approximately 39% last October, highlighting the importance of lease rates in the market.
Theo aims to invert the traditional structure where precious metals-focused banks and dealers capture lease income, by distributing it directly to token holders. Iggy Ioppe, Chief Investment Officer at Theo, stated that 'in this environment, lease rates are the real signal, not spot prices.'
