Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has urged the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) to reduce gas flaring and convert the country's gas resources into economic benefits for Nigerians.

Tinubu made this call while receiving the NLNG board, led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade, at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday. The president emphasized that NLNG's focus should extend beyond increasing revenue from international markets to expanding domestic gas utilization.

Tinubu also commended NLNG for increasing its operational capacity and assured the company of his administration's willingness to provide incentives needed to expand its operations and maximize its potential. He noted that gas flaring should be treated as an environmental liability that can instead be converted into an economic asset through greater domestic utilization and appropriate pricing mechanisms.

Falade informed the president that NLNG has generated over $150 billion since inception, with shareholders receiving about $47 billion in dividends. The company currently operates at five trains, having raised its capacity due to increased oil production. Falade also announced plans to inaugurate Train Seven, which is expected to increase NLNG's capacity by 35%.
