Tinubu's CNG Initiative Hits Milestone: Over 120,000 Vehicles Converted

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu announced on September 19 that over 120,000 vehicles have been converted to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) under his administration. This is part of an initiative to reduce transport costs and dependence on fossil fuels.

The president noted that more than 400 CNG conversion centers and over 90 refuelling stations are now operational in the country, with both numbers increasing daily.

Tinubu highlighted specific fare reductions in several states, including Abuja, Plateau, Niger, Abia, Edo, Kano, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Kwara, and Lagos. In Abuja, for example, a 40% drop in fares has been achieved through a partnership with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The president urged all state governors to accelerate CNG infrastructure development and fleet deployment before October 1.
