A new gas well at the Titas field has started supplying 12.5 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid, providing a modest boost to domestic production amid persistent shortages.

The well, named Titas-28, was drilled by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) at a cost of around Tk 2 billion and took nearly six months to complete.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit formally inaugurated the commercial gas flow, saying it would help ease pressure on the country's energy system.

Amit emphasized the importance of raising domestic output as imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) has become two to three times more expensive, which the government cannot afford. He added that local gas companies had been neglected for over a decade but are now being revitalised.
