TOR Receives Historic Cargo of Sankofa Crude for Domestic Refining
The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has received its first cargo of crude oil from Ghana's Sankofa-Gye Nyame field, marking a historic milestone in the country's domestic petroleum industry. The refinery received approximately 950,000 barrels of light sweet crude oil supplied by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
The delivery was made on September 25, 2026, under a commercial arrangement between TOR and GNPC. Speaking at the event, TOR Managing Director Edmond Kombat described the delivery as a historic moment for Ghana.
Kombat noted that the locally produced crude would now be refined for the domestic market, linking Ghana's upstream oil production with domestic refining. He emphasized the importance of adding value to the country's natural resources and reducing costs associated with transporting crude from overseas.
The Sankofa crude is particularly suitable for TOR due to its light and sweet characteristics, Kombat said. The refinery is expected to yield approximately 70 million liters of gasoline, 59 million liters of gas oil, and 15 million liters of aviation fuel from the cargo.
