Transgaz Eyes Stake in Argent LNG Amid EU Diversification Push
Transgaz, Romania's gas transmission system operator, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Argent LNG, a developer of one of the largest LNG export terminals in the US.
The MoU establishes a framework for Transgaz to explore and negotiate a potential equity investment in Argent LNG. This move aims to secure long-term access to US LNG supplies for Romania while also acquiring a direct stake in the company overseeing the broader Argent LNG development platform.
Argent LNG is developing an LNG export terminal in Port Fourchon, Louisiana, with a planned capacity of 25 million metric tons per year (MTPA). The cooperation between Transgaz and Argent LNG aims to enable the transit of US LNG through Romania to neighboring countries such as Moldova and Ukraine.
The deal is expected to diversify Romania's natural gas supply sources while providing a new route for US LNG exports to Europe. However, no further details were provided on the potential investment size or timeline.
