Triple Witching Brings Volatility as US Stocks, Gold, and Cryptos React
US stock futures were mixed in pre-market trading on Friday as the market digested triple witching, when derivative contracts expire simultaneously. The total notional value of expiring contracts is estimated to exceed $2 trillion.
Nvidia's optimistic earnings outlook led a rebound in tech and chip-related sectors, while international oil prices fell due to easing concerns over Middle East tensions. WTI crude futures dropped over 5% to near $95 per barrel.
Gold prices continued to rebound, approaching $4,400 per ounce, as market concerns over sustained aggressive rate hikes eased. Silver rose above $67 per ounce.
Cryptocurrency markets also saw gains, with Bitcoin reclaiming $78,000, boosted by rebounding risk appetite and U.S. regulators advancing tokenized securities pilots.
