Trump and Xi Discuss Iran Peace Plan Amid Ongoing War
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the Middle East war at their summit on September 25. The meeting came as Iran pressed Washington to accept a seven-day plan to end fighting in the region.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi welcomed Xi's push for a return to the June framework agreement, but emphasized that his country would not compromise on its nuclear program. 'The choice now rests with the United States,' Araqchi said.
Xi urged Trump to accept the plan, which includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting regional fighting within seven days. In return, Iran wants the US to lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release frozen funds, and waive oil sanctions.
Trump warned Xi against providing support to Iran, but received assurances that China would not do so. The meeting marked a significant development in the global effort to end the conflict, which has disrupted oil flows through one of the world's most critical shipping lanes.
