Trump and Xi Discuss Middle East Conflict Amidst Iran's Seven-Day Plan
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Friday to discuss the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, as Iran presses for a seven-day plan to end fighting. The plan involves reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting regional hostilities.
China's Xi urged the US and Iran to return to the June framework agreement that led to a short-lived ceasefire and continue negotiations toward a broader settlement. Trump warned Xi against providing support to Iran, but received assurances that China would not do so.
The Iranian seven-day proposal comes after previous attempts at diplomacy have failed to end the war, which began on February 28 with US and Israeli strikes. The proposal requires the US to lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release Iran's frozen funds, and waive its oil sanctions in exchange for Tehran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending hostilities.
