Trump and Xi Discuss Middle East War as Iran Presents Seven-Day Peace Plan

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the ongoing Middle East war during their summit on September 25. The conversation came as Iran pressed Washington to accept a seven-day plan to end fighting in the region, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Xi urged the US and Iran to return to the June framework agreement that led to a short-lived ceasefire, according to China's state news agency Xinhua. Trump warned Xi against providing support to Iran, receiving assurances that China would not do so, said David Perdue, Trump's ambassador to Beijing.

The Iranian seven-day proposal requires the US to lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release frozen funds, and waive oil sanctions in exchange for Tehran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting hostilities. However, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Iran would show no flexibility over its nuclear program even if the US accepts the peace deal.
