Trump Announces $54B South Korea Investment for Alaska Pipeline
President Donald Trump announced a massive $54 billion investment from South Korea to develop a natural gas export project in Alaska, a move he hailed as 'one of the largest energy projects in American history.' The deal is part of a larger $200 billion package negotiated during U.S.-South Korea trade talks.
The project includes an investment in a natural gas power plant in Texas and eight nuclear power plants. Trump praised Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan, who has been working on this deal for nearly 20 years, calling him 'a great senator' and saying he's 'had my ear for a long time.'
According to the president, the new pipeline will deliver nearly 4 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas per day, making it one of the largest in the world. The project is expected to create 12,000 construction jobs immediately and 1,000 operational jobs.
