Trump Blames Ukraine for Diesel Price Surge
US President Donald Trump has linked the sharp rise in diesel prices to Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, stating that Russia's war against Ukraine and attacks on energy infrastructure are the main factors behind the current price increase.
In a statement made at the White House on September 30th, Trump emphasized that if it weren't for these events, there wouldn't be any problems with diesel fuel. This is not the first time Trump has accused Ukraine of causing fuel shortages and affecting global markets.
The average price of diesel fuel in the US reached a record high of $6.53 per gallon by the end of September, according to AAA data. The White House is considering measures to address the issue, including voluntary export restrictions by US oil refining companies and the possibility of banning diesel exports from the US.
However, Reuters data suggests that the current market situation has multiple causes, including the war in the Middle East, strikes on Russian oil refineries, a reduction in exports from China, and low global fuel stocks. The US Secretary of Energy also pointed out that the global market had lost diesel supplies from the Middle East and China.
