Trump Blocks Strait of Hormuz Deal Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
US President Trump said on social media that there are no talks planned between the US and Iran, despite reports of an impending deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Oman and Iran have reportedly been close to a deal to resume oil shipments through the waterway, but Trump's statement cast doubt on the agreement. The White House confirmed that Trump had made the remarks in the Oval Office, but declined further comment.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi responded to Trump's tweet by saying 'Just as Trump correctly wrote the name of the eternal Persian Gulf, soon his delusion regarding the Strait of Hormuz will either be corrected or we will correct the delusions of this deluded man.'
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also weighed in on the situation, suggesting that an Iran-Oman agreement could pave the way for Washington and Tehran to return to negotiations. However, Trump's administration has reportedly expressed opposition to certain aspects of the proposed deal.
