Trump Claims Iran Has Abandoned Nuclear Plans Amid Lower Oil Prices
US President Donald Trump said Iran has 'virtually given up' any plans to develop nuclear weapons, citing a decrease in oil prices as evidence of his administration's success. Speaking on Saturday, Trump claimed that oil prices were lower than they were under the Biden administration and that Iran was no longer seeking a nuclear weapon.
Tehran has long denied accusations by the US and Israel that it seeks to develop nuclear weapons, with President Masoud Pezeshkian stating last month that Iran's religious beliefs prohibit such development. However, Trump dismissed this claim, saying Iran had 'virtually given up' any plans for nuclear weapons.
The decrease in oil prices is a significant point of contention, as it was elevated after the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28. Trump also pointed out that oil prices were lower than they were under the Biden administration, despite no major changes to policy.
