US President Donald Trump has defended the war in Iran as a conflict fought for the United States, despite intensifying economic pressure on Tehran.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that Iran's oil export revenues have sharply declined since the US reinstated its blockade, with crude accumulating on vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.

No Iranian oil shipments have successfully transited to China since the blockade was reinstated, and inventory cannot be replenished as crude piles up aboard vessels trapped inside the strait.
