Trump Faces Pressure Over China's Alleged Support for Iran
US lawmakers are calling for President Donald Trump to take tougher action against Chinese entities accused of helping Iran with satellite intelligence, weapons components, and oil revenue.
The issue came up during a meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House on September 24. The two leaders held 'sincere and in-depth exchanges' but did not specify whether Iran was among the issues they discussed.
According to Republican Senator Roger Wicker, China gave Iran satellite imagery intelligence that led to the death of American troops. He urged Trump to get an answer on this issue.
Democratic senators accused Trump of failing to hold Xi accountable for Chinese companies' alleged support for Iran. They cited a report by The Wall Street Journal that US officials said Chinese entities provided Iran with high-resolution imagery of a US base in Jordan before an Iranian strike killed three US soldiers and wounded four others.
