Trump Floats Possibility of Permanent US Presence in Iran
US President Donald Trump has suggested that his country could remain in Iran and maintain control over its oil reserves, drawing parallels with a deal struck in Venezuela. Speaking at the Irish Open golf championship during his trip to Ireland for meetings and golf, Trump expressed optimism that the conflict with Iran would end this year, possibly after the US midterm elections in November.
The president claimed that the price of gasoline would plummet once the war in Iran ends, stating that it 'will drop like a rock.' He added that he would only pursue a deal that is beneficial to the US and not one that is 'no good.'
Trump's comments come as turmoil in the Middle East has sent oil markets into a tailspin. Oil traders expect prices to rise again on Monday following an attack on a Saudi oil pipeline.
