Trump Hails 'Very Good' Iran Talks Amid Falling Oil Prices
US and Iranian representatives met for 'very good' talks at the United Nations, according to US President Donald Trump. The meeting, which lasted three hours, was described by Trump as 'very productive'. He announced that another meeting is scheduled in the near future.
The UN talks came just hours after Trump delivered a bellicose address to the United Nations, where he said he faced a 'big decision' on whether to make a deal with Iran or 'annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly'. Despite this, oil prices fell as hopes of diplomatic progress towards ending the Middle East conflict grew.
The OECD reported that global economic growth had been 'resilient' in many countries despite the war, raising its economic output forecasts for 2026. However, a report that Saudi Arabia had rebooted operations along its East-West Pipeline, a crucial oil export route shut down by drone attacks, also contributed to the decline in oil prices.
