President Trump posted an AI-generated video on his Truth Social account showing Iran's oil export hub of Kharg Island being 'blown to smithereens'.

The 10-second clip was shared hours after the first American airstrikes targeting the Islamic Republic since July.

However, there is no evidence that the island in the Persian Gulf had been hit, and operations at Kharg continued as normal, according to Hamid Bovard, chief executive of the National Iranian Oil Co.

The US Central Command said its forces had struck rocket launchers on Iran's Larak island, about 400 miles east of Kharg, in response to Tehran launching missiles at US sites in Jordan.

The price of Brent crude oil briefly surged above $90 per barrel ahead of Monday's opening bell due to the hostilities.
