Trump Refuses Air Strikes Against Houthis Amid Fresh Attacks on Saudi Arabia

The Houthis have launched a fresh wave of attacks on Saudi Arabia, targeting oil facilities and key infrastructure. However, US President Donald Trump has refused to launch air strikes against the group, citing concerns over military resources and fuel prices.

Riyadh has asked Washington for repeated air strikes against the Houthis, but the US has declined. The decision is creating fresh tension between Washington and Riyadh, raising questions about how far the US is willing to go to defend its ally.

Mona Yacoubian, director of the Middle East Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said: 'The US is wavering, and ultimately its decision, at least for now, not to join the Saudis is simply injecting more tension into the bilateral relationship.'

The Houthis have made gains along Yemen's Red Sea coast, pushing back Saudi-backed forces and strengthening their position near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. The group has also targeted oil facilities in southern Saudi Arabia and attacked tankers.
