Trump Reignites Tensions with Iran Over Kharg Island Energy Hub
US President Donald Trump has reignited tensions with Iran by posting AI-generated images on his Truth Social platform, depicting attacks on the country's energy infrastructure and maritime assets.
The images include a graphic reading 'STRIKE ON KHARG,' referencing Iran's primary oil-export terminal on Kharg Island, which Trump has repeatedly described as Tehran's economic 'crown jewel.'
This is not the first time Trump has expressed interest in targeting Kharg Island. In 1988, while promoting his book The Art of the Deal in Britain, he stated that a direct strike on the island would be justified if Iran attacked US personnel or ships.
Trump's latest posts come after retired Gen. Frank McKenzie, former commander of CENTCOM, suggested that Washington should consider seizing Kharg Island to provide leverage in future negotiations and affect global energy markets.
