Trump Rejects Iran Proposal, Expects More Talks This Week
US President Donald Trump expects more talks with Iran this week after rejecting an Iranian proposal to end the conflict between the two countries. In a phone interview with Axios, Trump stated that he anticipates US negotiators will engage in additional discussions with Iran this week.
The Iranian proposal, which was rejected by Trump on Saturday, called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restarting nuclear talks within a week if the United States lifts its naval blockade, removes sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and reinstates a ceasefire across the region. However, Trump described the proposed deal as 'not acceptable.'
A US defense official confirmed that 22 million barrels of oil were exported through the Strait of Hormuz on Friday night, which is the largest volume since the conflict began. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran remains committed to a diplomatic resolution and is ready for negotiations.
