Trump Rejects Iran Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iran proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial waterway for global energy supplies. The deal proposed by Iran would have seen a cessation of all hostilities in the Middle East, including in Lebanon, with Iran reopening the strait on the seventh day of the truce.
The memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran earlier this year outlined conditions that included the release of frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, and an end to the US naval blockade. However, Trump expressed skepticism about Iran's willingness to meet these demands.
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the process would begin from the very day the deal is accepted, but Trump has rejected the proposal.
