Trump Rejects Iran's Offer to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, Cites 'Losing So Badly'
Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz was rejected by US President Donald Trump on Saturday. The offer, which was mediated by Qatar and included conditions such as lifting the US naval blockade and waiving sanctions on Iranian oil sales, was deemed 'unacceptable' by Trump.
'They're losing so badly,' Trump said, framing Iran's urgency to reopen the strait as a sign of weakness rather than genuine diplomacy. He also stated that he was open to making a deal in principle but this particular one didn't meet the bar.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important oil transit corridors and its closure has already sharply reduced shipping through it, rattling global energy markets. Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, weighed in separately, warning against 'any party's use of these vital passages as a tool for pressure, threat, or harm to the interests of states.'
