Trump Rejects Iran's Plan to Reopen Key Waterway
US President Donald Trump rejected a proposal by Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for global energy supply. The Iranian plan called for a cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, including Lebanon, and would have led to the reopening of the strait within seven days.
Tehran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran's proposal was based on a memorandum of understanding signed with the US earlier this year. The conditions included the release of frozen Iranian assets, lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, and an end to the US naval blockade in the region.
Trump said he rejected the proposal because 'they're losing so badly' and Iran wants to make a deal to regain some ground. He also posted an image of a map showing the Strait of Hormuz circled and labelled 'Trump Strait', indicating his skepticism about Iran's intentions.
