Trump Rejects Iran's Proposal for Strait of Hormuz Reopening
US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, escalating tensions in the seven-month-long US-Iran conflict.
The proposal, presented by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, included lifting the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, easing sanctions on Iranian oil exports, releasing $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, and agreeing to a ceasefire covering the wider region.
Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial ships after these conditions were met, with talks on a final nuclear agreement beginning on the seventh day. However, Trump rejected the proposal, posting a map of the Strait of Hormuz labelled 'Trump Strait' on Truth Social.
