Trump Rejects Iran's Proposal for Strait Reopening and Nuclear Talks
US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and resume nuclear negotiations. The proposal, made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, would have lifted the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, waived sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and agreed to a ceasefire that includes Lebanon.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major global shipping route for oil and other commodities, and its closure has significantly impacted shipping traffic. Trump said Iran wanted an agreement because it was 'losing so badly' and implied that any deal would not be acceptable.
Despite the rejection, US and Iranian officials continue to negotiate through regional mediators, including on the nuclear issue. The White House confirmed that US officials were engaged in 'positive and constructive' conversations with mediators.
