Trump Rejects Iran's Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart nuclear negotiations. According to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Tehran presented a 'concrete seven-day plan' at the UN General Assembly in New York this week.

The plan would require the US to lift its naval blockade, ease restrictions on Iranian oil exports, release frozen Iranian assets, and observe a ceasefire that includes an end to Israel's combat operations in Lebanon. In exchange, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear negotiations.

Trump dismissed the proposal, stating that Iran wants a deal because it is losing badly under the US blockade. He argued that Iran 'outsmarted themselves' by restricting traffic through the waterway, which subsequently deprived them of oil revenues. Trump claimed that the US maintains full control of Hormuz and holds the stronger negotiating position.
