Trump Rejects Iran's Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks on its nuclear program. The plan, which was put forward by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, would have seen Iran lift restrictions on the strait within a week if the US lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waived sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and observed a ceasefire in Lebanon.

In response to this proposal, Trump stated that Iran is 'losing so badly' and wanted to make a deal. He added that he would like to make a deal as well, but the one proposed by Iran was not acceptable.

This rejection comes after a week of indirect talks between Iran and the US at the UN General Assembly in New York. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had pushed back against Trump's latest threat to 'annihilate' the Islamic Republic during his speech, but emphasized that Tehran remains open to diplomacy.
