Trump Rejects Iran's Seven-Day Ceasefire Proposal
US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's seven-day ceasefire proposal, according to US officials cited by the Wall Street Journal. The plan, which was conveyed through Qatari mediators, would have seen Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. In return, the United States would lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release frozen Iranian funds, and waive sanctions on Iranian oil exports.
The proposal was made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said that Tehran would abide by any commitments it makes if Washington accepts the plan. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also stated that Iran would allow UN nuclear inspectors under an agreement reached through negotiations.
This rejection comes after months of failed efforts to end the conflict, which began on February 28 with US and Israeli strikes on Iran. The war has since alternated between pauses and renewed strikes, disrupting oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
