Trump Rejects Iran's Seven-Day Ceasefire Proposal
US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal, which was conveyed through intermediaries, would have included a cessation of hostilities, the restoration of shipping through the key oil artery, and further negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program. In return, the US would lift the blockade of Iranian ports, ease sanctions on oil exports, and unblock some frozen assets.
According to The Wall Street Journal, US officials view contacts between Washington and Tehran as positive and constructive. However, Trump is skeptical about Iran's willingness to meet US demands, telling his aides that he expects strikes on Iran could resume after the US midterm elections in November.
