Trump Rejects Iran's Seven-Day Plan for Strait of Hormuz Reopening
US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. The proposal, made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the UN General Assembly in New York, included a ceasefire across the Middle East and the lifting of US sanctions on Iranian oil.
The terms also required the release of frozen Iranian assets valued at over $12 billion and an end to the US naval blockade of Iran. According to Araghchi, the conditions were based on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached with the United States earlier in the year.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran was willing to implement the proposal immediately if Washington accepted the terms. However, Trump's rejection has raised fresh uncertainty over the prospects of a negotiated settlement.
