Trump Renames Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Iran Peace Talks

President Donald Trump has taken a bold move in the ongoing conflict with Iran by renaming the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most crucial oil trading routes, to 'Trump Strait'. This move comes as the US and Iran engage in peace talks, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presenting a seven-day plan to revive negotiations on the country's nuclear programme. The plan involves lifting a naval blockade, easing oil sanctions, and maintaining a ceasefire.

However, Trump officials have expressed skepticism about Iran's motives, with some expecting hostilities in the region to persist beyond the US midterm elections in November. Oil prices have been volatile in recent months, jumping past $100 per barrel as a result of the conflict. Brent Crude has weakened slightly due to increased oil flows from the Gulf region, but remains around 30% higher than its July price.

Susannah Streeter, chief investment strategist at Wealth Club, noted that analysts are pricing in a less hawkish tone from the White House leading up to November's elections. This phenomenon is known as 'Trump Always Chickens Out' or TACO, where markets expect some kind of deal to be more likely, especially after Trump described talks with Iranian officials as 'very productive'.
