Trump Set to Unveil Korea's $54B Alaska LNG Investment
US President Donald Trump is set to unveil South Korea's $54 billion investment in the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project, as part of a larger $350 billion investment commitment agreed upon during last year's U.S.-South Korea tariff negotiations.
The project involves extracting natural gas from fields in northern Alaska and transporting it through a 1,300-kilometer pipeline to Nikiski in the south for export to Asian markets, including South Korea.
Trump has repeatedly highlighted potential participation by South Korea and Japan, underscoring the potential for expanded energy cooperation among the three countries.
South Korea's $200 billion strategic investment plan includes a gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Encinal, Texas, as its top-priority project, but the Alaska LNG project is classified as one that requires further consultation due to outstanding investment terms and financing arrangements.
