Trump Targets Exxon and Chevron with Demands for Lower Gas Prices
US President Donald Trump has publicly criticized ExxonMobil and Chevron, two of America's largest oil companies, for their record-breaking profits during the Iran conflict. The companies collectively generated more than $26 billion in profit during the three months ending in June.
In a press conference at the White House on Monday, Trump argued that soaring corporate earnings had come at the expense of drivers coping with elevated fuel costs. He singled out both ExxonMobil and Chevron by name, stating 'Chevron: too much money. ExxonMobil: too much money.'
Trump's criticism comes after months of volatility in global oil markets triggered by the conflict involving Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy chokepoint, has driven significant swings in international crude prices.
Industry analysts note that integrated oil companies generate earnings from multiple business segments, including crude production, refining, chemicals, and international operations. Corporate profits are not determined solely by retail gasoline prices.
