Trump Threatens Trade Retaliation Over Alaska LNG Investment Pushback
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose new trade penalties on South Korea if it doesn't follow through on its commitment to invest in a liquefied natural gas export project in Alaska.
The $54 billion Alaska LNG venture was touted by Trump as the centerpiece of South Korea's pledge to invest in the United States, but Seoul has expressed reservations due to concerns over the project's commercial viability.
'If they don't want to do it, that's OK with me. I'll just charge them more,' Trump said at a midterm campaign rally on Friday, echoing past tariff threats against foreign governments.
