Trump to Unveil $200 Billion South Korea Investment Deal on Wednesday
US President Donald Trump is set to announce a major investment deal with South Korea on Wednesday. According to sources, South Korea will invest $200 billion in US projects, including $54 billion for the Alaska LNG pipeline project. The announcement is part of a broader $350 billion strategic investment package agreed upon as part of a trade agreement last year.
The White House says the investments will include the Alaska LNG pipeline project, eight large-scale nuclear power plants, and a 6-gigawatt power generation facility in Texas. The Alaska LNG project involves an 807-mile pipeline carrying natural gas from the North Slope to a liquefaction facility on Alaska's southern coast.
The investment is expected to provide financing for the long-planned Alaska LNG project, which has faced years of uncertainty over its cost and commercial viability. South Korea's industry ministry said last week that it was considering the construction of eight large nuclear reactors and the Alaska LNG project as part of the $200 billion strategic investment program.
