Trump Told to Press Xi Over China's Support for Iran

US Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen believes President Donald Trump should pressure Chinese President Xi Jinping to stop supporting Iran during their upcoming summit. Shaheen cited reports that China's firms are helping Tehran economically and militarily, providing it with a 'critical economic lifeline.'

About 90% of Iran's oil exports go to China, generating billions of dollars in revenue for the country. Chinese companies have also supplied components used in Iranian ballistic missiles and drones.

Shaheen emphasized that cutting off outside support is key to ending the war in Iran, stating 'If we want to bring this war to an end, we need to cut off the outside support that allows Iran to keep fighting, and that starts with China.'
