Trump Touts Korean Investment in Alaska LNG Project
President Donald Trump is poised to announce a major investment package from South Korea worth about $54 billion to build an Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility and other key U.S. projects.
The project, which would be the first such U.S. project with direct access to Asia, has faced years of uncertainty over its cost, financing, and commercial viability, including analysis by the South Korean and Japanese governments.
South Korea's embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the planned announcement, but sources indicate it could happen as soon as Wednesday.
The Alaska LNG project would include a pipeline to transport natural gas from Alaska's North Slope to a liquefaction facility on the state's southern coast, where it could be shipped to Asian markets.
