Trump Touts South Korea Deal for Alaska LNG Project
US President Donald Trump is poised to announce plans to utilize South Korea's strategic investment fund for several major US projects, including a $54 billion proposal for the Alaska LNG facility.
The move, set to be made as early as Wednesday, is part of a broader effort by Trump to bolster his administration's economic record ahead of November's midterm elections.
As part of this push, Trump aims to secure funding from South Korea's strategic investment fund for several key projects, including the Alaska LNG facility. This project would involve building a pipeline to transport natural gas from Alaska's North Slope to a liquefaction facility on the state's southern coast, where it could be shipped to Asian markets.
Japan's two largest LNG importers, JERA and, have already signed preliminary deals to buy a combined 2 million metric tons of LNG per year from Alaska LNG should it be built. Glenfarne, the project's developer, has secured commitments for 13 million tons per year, but needs agreements for an additional 3 million tons to finalize financing.
