Trump Unveils $54 Billion Alaska LNG Project Amid Trade Deal with South Korea
US President Donald Trump announced a major $54 billion investment in Alaska as part of a trade deal with South Korea. The project, which has been in the works for nearly five decades, involves building a liquefied natural gas facility and includes an 807-mile pipeline to transport resource-rich North Slope gas to markets.
The investment comes from South Korea, which pledged $350 billion in US investments as part of a trade deal agreed upon in July 2025. The project is expected to create 12,000 construction jobs immediately and save Alaskan households between $1,500 and $2,200 per year on energy costs.
Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan, who has been a long-time proponent of the pipeline project, was praised by Trump for his role in securing the deal. Trump also took an opportunity to poke fun at Sullivan's re-election campaign, noting that one of his opponents shares his name and jokingly referred to him as 'super.'
The LNG export terminal is designed to anchor a massive energy infrastructure project, making it the largest proposed energy infrastructure project in US history.
