Trump Unveils South Korea's $200 Billion Energy Investment Plans
US President Donald Trump announced South Korea's investment plans in three major energy infrastructure projects. The agreements include a $22 billion gas-fired power plant in Texas, eight large-scale nuclear reactors, and a liquefied natural gas project in Alaska.
The investments are part of the bilateral trade agreement signed last year, which committed South Korea to investing $350 billion in the US in return for lower tariffs on Korean goods. Trump highlighted the importance of these projects, saying they would secure America's critical energy supply chain and ensure its dominance in the global market.
According to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, over $50 billion will be invested in the Alaska LNG project, which includes building a 1,298-kilometer-long pipeline from the North Slope to southern Alaska. The project aims to transport natural gas that will be cooled to liquid form for shipments to Asia.
