Trump Vows 'Annihilation' of Iran as Tensions Escalate at UN
US President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, defending his decision to start a war with Iran. He suggested that he could be at a crossroads in the conflict, where he would either make a deal with Iran or 'annihilate' the Islamic Republic.
In his speech, Trump accused Iran of stalling to make a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz until after the US midterm elections. He claimed that elevated oil prices are a transitory problem that will fade once the war ends.
Trump also touched on Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, expressing frustration with the conflict and the targeting of energy infrastructure. He signed a new sanctions bill last week, which empowers him to impose up to 100% tariffs on top importers of Russian oil or natural gas.
