Trump Warns Iran: No Nuclear Weapons Allowed
US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. He stated that 'from the first day I entered the political arena, I've been unwavering; I will never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.'
Trump defended the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran and called on other countries to join the US in imposing economic isolation until Tehran stops its attacks on commercial shipping, gives up its nuclear ambitions, and ends its support for militant groups.
The President also warned that if a peace deal is not reached, he could 'annihilate' the Islamic Republic. He said his administration had attempted to negotiate with Iran after he returned to office, offering economic cooperation in exchange for an end to its nuclear program and support for what he described as terrorism.
Trump's comments had an immediate bearing on expectations in the oil market, as traders pared earlier losses after his speech. Brent crude futures for November delivery settled at $99.25 a barrel, down $1.09, or 1.09 per cent, while US crude prices also moved lower.
