Trump Warns of Leadership Void in Iran Amid Economic Crisis
Former US President Donald Trump stated that Iran’s leadership is in chaos, with the country’s second group of leaders now gone. Speaking at an Anduril Industries event in Maryland, Trump emphasized that the biggest challenge is the uncertainty over who is currently running Iran. His remarks came as the US-Israeli conflict with Tehran entered its eighth month.
Trump suggested that the United States must decide how to conclude its engagement with Iran, either through a diplomatic or more aggressive approach. He claimed that the US was gaining significant leverage against Iran, reducing its regional influence. Trump cited the recent resignation of Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad as evidence of severe economic strain on the country.
While Iranian state media reported Paknejad’s resignation was for personal reasons, Trump asserted that Iran is facing near 300% inflation and economic collapse, quoting Paknejad as saying Iran has 'no economy' and 'no oil.' These claims were not independently verified. Trump also noted that oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have recently exceeded pre-war levels.
