Trump Warns South Korea Over Alaska LNG Project Delays
President Donald Trump has issued a warning to South Korea, threatening to increase costs if the country does not quickly join the $50 billion Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump stated, “If they don’t want to do it, that’s OK with me. I’ll just charge them more.” He also hinted at doubling unspecified costs if South Korea delays signing on to the project.
South Korea is currently evaluating the Alaska LNG project, with any participation hinging on its commercial viability and compliance with domestic legal procedures. The discrepancy between Trump’s aggressive stance and Seoul’s cautious approach leaves the extent of South Korea’s involvement uncertain.
In addition to the LNG project, Trump announced an $8.4 billion enhanced oil recovery initiative, which employs methods like carbon dioxide injection to boost crude oil production. This further investment comes as South Korea continues to review the Alaska LNG deal.
