Trump's Comments Send Crude Oil Prices Plummeting

The Canadian dollar was relatively steady to start the week, but crude oil prices took a hit due to recent developments in the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump's comments about being open to talking to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the United Nations General Assembly caused Brent crude oil to shed US$3.03 at US$100.84 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate retreated US$3.68 at US$96.62/barrel.

The Canadian dollar itself was relatively unchanged, trading at US$0.7141 or US$1=C$1.4004 as of 8:41 a.m. CDT, compared to US$0.7142 or US$1=C$1.4002.
